Last day of our June Project







Today we just cleaned up Ms. Gray's and Ms. Ullman's rooms, got ready for our presentation tomorrow, and had fun!

FruitLicious in uphams corner

This is what we did yesterday ,we had to take surverys about different types of food.The store that we looked in was the was the store that we thought was the biggest.So when were in the store we had to answer the questions that were on the survey sheet.We all mostly found junk food.

fuit licious

Today we went to Stop and SHop in South Boston. We were looking at how many different kinds of vegetables and junk food does the store sell. I saw a hundred different vegetables and I would like to name a couple:
-kale greens
-carrots
-turnip greens
-celery
-cabbage
-onions
-sweet potatoes
-regular potatoes
-acorn squash
-spaghetti squash
-butternut squash
-buttercup squash
-avacado
-broccoli rabe

I'm going to tell you about how much some prices cost. Broccoli cost $1.79 a pound. Lettucs cost $1.99 a pound. And green peppers cost $1.99 a pound. THey were not too expensive. I think it would be easy for people in SOuth Boston to eat good vegetables because it is not that much money and there are a lot of different kinds.

We also counted fruits and there were 55 different kinds. I will list some of them:
-fuji apples
-golden delicious apples
-braebar apples
-lemons
-limes
-rejou pears
-anjou pears
-bosc pears
-packhan pears
-red grapefruit
-oranges
-mangoes
-ugli fruit
-cactus pear
-passion fruit

Most of the apples cost around $2 a pound. Bananas in Stop and SHop cost 69 cents a pound. And oranges cost around $2 a pound too. I think it would be easy for people in SOuth Boston to eat fruit since there are a lot of different things to choose from.

I think the vegetables and fruits look fresh, so I think they'll get the attention of people so they will buy it.

We was stalking people, walking behind them and seeing what they have in their carriages, healthy food or unhealthy food. Most of the people in the store picked out healthy food.

THis is all the things I learned today in Stop and Shop.

today we went to the stop & shop and did prices on the friut. I find out that there more than 200+ different kinds icecream, and about 59 diferent kinds of chip in big store.We also find out that there more healthly than junkfood in the checkout counter and i also find out 250 different kinds of the candy.

Who's Neighborhood is Healthier?








Today we added up our questionares and made averages of both neighborhoods. We found out that uphams corner eats more unhealthy then south boston. Here are some of our questions and results from uphams corner-

What is the average number of serving of fruits and vegetables that people eat in a week?
The answer is three.

What is that average number of servingf of fast food that people ate in a week?The average is 7.

What is the averege distance people live from a corner store?
The ansewer is less that a mile, and 1/2 mile.

What is the average distance people lived from a grocery store?
The answer is 2 miles.

How many people preferred to eat fried chicken?
The answer is eleven.

How many people preferred to eat backed chicken?
The answer is six.

SUMMARY.
You can say that most people eat unhealthy. You can also say tahat most people would prefer to probably rather go to the corner store than the grocery store. based on teh movie, "supersize me" there are alot of obest people and we know that some of them are in our own neighborhood.

today we roamed the streets of uphams corner and asked people about their nutrition. we took the bus from south boston to uphams corner and then went off on our own to conduct interviews. next week we'll compare the results from south boston and uphams corner-- stay tuned...

Give Childrens Information They Need to Make Healthy Food Choices? Now and for Life

Today I was reading about(how to give childrens information that they need to make healthy food choices? now and for life) one of the best research that I found out was that better choices lead to healthy bodies and healthy lives.? and the last one is that a number of things have a powerful influence on how and what we eat consider the following as you plan healthy food choices for your child.

Today we made posters , and we did some research on Nutrition and others things . Here are just some of the facts from our group.


1.Avoid chicken nuggets , Fried nuggets are sorry imposters of real chickens.

2.Skip fries ! Consider taking a bag of mini-carrots ,grapes or other fruits and vegies to have instead this will add vitamins and fiber to the meal.

1.Rich people have better helath then poor people.

2.Mcdonalds has lowerd there prices ,but there food is very fatty.

3.If you do eat fast food,look over the menu and make the most healthest choice you can !

1.People are more likey to be obese if they watch t.v. and eat fast food.

2.Black women are more likey to be obese then white women.

3.Many young kids in the US are overwegiht or obese.They have problems like strokes and Cancer.

4. poor kids are more often fat then rich kids.

Some Things on my mind is why are poor kids fatter then rich kids? Should it not be the other way around ?

The group of fruit called the three stugies in the Fruitlicious that doing the healthy food group. We are all going around the neiborhood asking people what their favorite healthy food is, or wheather or not they like healthy food or not. We are also asking around the neiborhoods of both South Boston and Uphams Corner and going to compare them in our last week to see how 2 different nieborhoods are different dependending on how they eat and what they eat.

healthy vs. unhealthy foods in south boston











today we checked out the south boston supermarket to see what healthy and unhealthy foods they stocked. here's what we found (and sampled!)...

some of the healthy foods we found were fruits and veggies, some of the unhealthy food we found were soda, cupcakes, cookies, and caramel (one way to make a healthy apple UNhealthy!)

Today we asked people questions about healty and unhealty foods. We had a good time today. We walked to the beach we went into stores and just had fun with each other. Everyone just had a good time with each other until scool is over.We asked people many qusetions and to tell you some grown ups are just like us in eating junk food. We had fun with each other and our teachers Mrs. Gray and Ms. Ullman.Everyone us in different places ask people questions. We had a great time.
